Beerbarrel Beach is one of the 14 trail sites of the East Coast Whale Trail, located in Akaroa, St Helens.

This beach offers sandy coastline and breathtaking views of the Pacific Ocean. The East Coast Whale Trail provides visitors with an opportunity to explore the coastal area while searching for whales, with information signs about whales and great viewing spots.

At Beerbarrel Beach, visitors can enjoy a variety of activities. Along the East Coast Whale Trail, there is a sign providing information and stories about whales. The trail site offers excellent opportunities for whale sightings, with binoculars installed at two of the sites for a closer view.

Visitors can also enjoy the sandy beach by taking a stroll along the coastline and swimming in the sea. The beach has spaces perfect for picnics and family gatherings, as well as opportunities for fishing, kayaking, and surfing.

The best time to view whales in Beerbarrel Beach and along the East Coast Whale Trail is from June to November, when the whales migrate towards warmer waters.

To reach Beerbarrel Beach, visitors can drive or take public transport to Akaroa, St Helens. It is approximately a 3-hour drive from Hobart and a 2-hour drive from Launceston. Bus services operate daily from both Hobart and Launceston to St Helens, from where visitors can take a short drive to Beerbarrel Beach. Free parking spaces and public toilets are available onsite.
