Museums in Carnarvon

Carnarvon, Western Australia, boasts several museums showcasing the region's rich history and culture. One of the notable museums is the Carnarvon Space and Technology Museum, located about 6km from the town center. It celebrates Carnarvon's role in the manned space program and Australian satellite communication industry. The museum, situated at the OTC Satellite Earth Station, features exhibits like a full-size replica of a Mercury Redstone capsule and an Apollo experience with a full-size simulator.

The Carnarvon Heritage Precinct encompasses various museums and historical sites, including the Railway Station Museum housing the Kimberley Steam Train, the Shearing Hall of Fame highlighting the Gascoyne shearing industry, and the Lighthouse Keeper's Cottage with memorabilia. The One Mile Jetty Centre opened in April 2019 and houses the HMAS Sydney II/HSK Kormoran Display commemorating a significant Australian battle in 1941 off the Gascoyne Coast.

Gwoonwardu Mia - Aboriginal Heritage and Cultural Centre is a multipurpose center celebrating the culture and country of the five Aboriginal language groups in Carnarvon. These groups include Yinggarda, Bayungu, Malgana, Thadgari, and Thalanyji. The center features an interpretive center called "Burlganyja Wanggaya - Old People Talking," where visitors can listen, learn, and respect the stories and wisdom of the local Aboriginal communities.
