Museums in Mount Barker Region

The Mount Barker region in Western Australia boasts two notable museums that highlight the area's rich history and heritage. The Old Police Station Museum is situated just north of Mount Barker on Albany Highway. Built in 1868 by convict labor, the museum is housed in the original police station and stables. It features various exhibits such as a pioneer room, a one-teacher school, machinery sheds for apple packing and milking machines, a Bristol school building, a second police station, and a restored courthouse. Visitors can enjoy tours by appointment and explore the gardens and buildings on the site.

Another local attraction, the Mt Barker Police and Folk Museum, provides insight into the region's history. Open on Saturdays and Sundays from 10 am to 2 pm, the museum also welcomes group appointments. Both museums offer a valuable opportunity for individuals to delve into the history and heritage of the Mount Barker region and its surroundings.
