Brewarrina museums

The museum offers a firsthand experience of Aboriginal culture through displays of life along the river, traditional artifacts, and a section on the Mission Station. It conducts special programs for school groups, offering one-hour visits, day-long visits, and week-long camps for students at all levels.

Overlooking the 40,000-year-old heritage-listed fish traps in Brewarrina, the Brewarrina Aboriginal Cultural Museum is managed by local Aboriginal individuals with a profound understanding and appreciation of their culture. The museum provides a unique and engaging learning experience suitable for the entire family, offering guided tours that last about 45 minutes and involve minimal walking.

In addition to the cultural sites, visitors can explore the Cuddie Springs archaeological site near Brewarrina, which showcases evidence of early human occupation and megafauna co-occurrence in Australian prehistory. The bone bed and artifacts at Cuddie Springs have been the subject of research by various experts, with recent excavations led by Dr. Judith Field from the University of Sydney between 1991 and 2009.
