INGLEWOOD

Working closely with Jason Levin, designer at Dean Kitchens, the owners of this 1930s residence made the decision to renovate to create an open-plan area where the kitchen featured as the hero.

After the removal of two main walls, there were several rooms that needed to be moved around, including the original kitchen, which was shifted out of its separate-room location and into the existing lounge. The old kitchen area was then transformed into a study.

The owners of the home selected a 'Shaker' theme to blend with the era of the home, incorporating stainless steel appliances, and an abundance of storage and bench space.

During a visit to the Dean Kitchens showroom, the owners were drawn to a display featuring the Brushed Cosmic Black granite, which they then chose to use as their splashback behind the stove, and on the island bench as a feature sculpture that also hid away the sink.

This matt, rough-textured natural stone was to become a focal point of their new kitchen.

A galley style was agreed upon early in the brief because it provides maximum practicality in terms of access to storage. The owners also selected soft-closing drawers, a separate pull-out bin, two pantries, and a four-metre island bench, complete with a Caesarstone benchtop, supported by art deco-style pilasters.

The completed renovation is an absolute success, boasting a traditional art deco-style design but with a modern twist. It is asymmetric in its execution but perfectly melds into its symmetrical 1930s surroundings, is functional and practical, and has transformed this lovely Inglewood home into an awesome space that will be enjoyed for years to come.
