Debbie Chambers

In Open Studios 2018, I’ve used the creative process to explore the concept of “different minds”. The result is an “art scape” of up cycled works across the studio and property, that provide stories and a narrative exploring the experience of living and coping in a complex world of difference. “Same, same but different” using Mindfulness to view this space well describes what I am grappling with in these works.

  • Open Days/times:BY APPOINTMENT ONLY
  • Galleries:Textiles,Mixed Media,Upcyclng,Artist Studio

Details

  • Open Days:By Appointment Only

Description

My art finds a place as “Quirky”, capturing elements of function and form, imbuing soul, storytelling, sharing new skills and old ways. It is about creative designs using repurposed materials – collecting, finding treasures, exchanging, sharing, using existing resources, making new things from old, and reducing consumption. Most of my work uses the flotsam and jetsam I find around me, for expression and imagery that illustrates what I see and want to express to others.

At Open Studios you will experience colour, light, assemblage, textiles and installations. Throughout the process, I delve into how we can reduce waste, create social networks, build opportunities, and enrich communities to encourage hope, optimism and creativity. Some works are collaborative, some provocative and many I hope are inspiring. Come and spend some time exploring the space. Enjoy the creative design ideas and projects you find, bring a picnic if you like and sit and soak up the works in the bush setting. Join the interactive activities, workshops and events we are planning for all ages over the two weeks of Open Studios…see Ferart Studio website and Facebook page for details.

With her cross-cultural biography, she feels caught between worlds and questions how Polish or German she really is. What and where is home? Not a dot on a map defined by lines and numbers, but a psychological state, something that James Baldwin called an ‘irrevocable condition’.

Elisa relates to Croatian writer Dubravka Ugresic who thinks that memories are where we might live after we’ve lost the real thing. Memories are the closest she has to a home.

Description

Nestled between the town and the sea, the Heritage Listed limestone building that houses the KIDOGO ARTHOUSE was built in 1884 by Harwood and Son.

A fixture at the edge of Bathers Beach in Fremantle, the building was originally known as the 'Dangerous Goods Store' and has served a number of purposes. At various times a kerosene storehouse, a Harbour and Lights Department warehouse and a shipwright's shed, the building was saved from near demolition in 1972 to be reborn to its present incarnation as a space for the creative arts.

Renovated in 1974, the iconic building began its new life as a hub for the arts in 1975 with the opening of Joan Campbell's acclaimed Potter's Studio. At the hands of Founder Joanna Robertson, this renewed and much-loved landmark structure has undergone its most glorious incarnation yet as the KIDOGO ARTHOUSE.

Description

“I like being out in the environment, and I like to record what is here…because we’re losing it.” Many of the tiny flowers are rare or endangered, surviving in small pockets of bush in quite obscure locations. Back in the studio, Leonie reworks the images, creating photographic montages, enhanced with her own colour language, arriving at a series of bold graphic designs. The results of this work are now available printed on rag papers and fabrics. Leonie’s home wares include cushions and drink coasters, alongside textile bags and unique clothing in the form of skirts, scarves, tops and jackets. Bringing another dimension to her arts practice, are the one-off hand-made journals…intricate images of wildflowers and orchids are cleverly scattered through the pages of parchment, drawing and writing papers.

Description

Innovative and experimental visual artist Lisa Payton of Lisa Payton Creative Arts explores mixed media techniques to create evocative and inspirational artworks.

Local Artists first exhibition at the Mandurah Convention Centre

Mandurah Convention Centre proudly hosts Lisa Payton Creative Arts and her new exhibition “Abstract Earth Art” which explores through paint many of the natural phenomena connected to Australia’s vast and varied land and seascapes.

Inspired by both the magnificence of the natural landscape with its immense open spaces and organic shapes as well as the richness of an inherent colour palette, Payton’s works are vibrant and expressive.

In a similar vein to environmental photographer Richard Waldendorp, Payton paints from a bird’s eye view. Her process involves juxtaposing textured layers and soft glazes of a diverse variety of mediums.  These include acrylic and enamel paint, acrylic mediums, turpentine, grass tree resin, bitumen, textured plasters, modeling paste and impasto which she applies to canvas, board and aluminum structures through experimental paint pouring and palette knife techniques.

“Abstract Earth Art’ Exhibition is about connecting people with the environment.” Says Payton, “Through the abstract bird’s eye view style of my art work people often recognize a place they have been throughout Australia.” It is through the recognition of the land that Payton delivers a positive environmental message, one of respect and responsibility towards the earth we live in.

Lisa Payton Creative Arts has been exhibiting at local markets, in particular the Smart Street Parties and has gained a reputation for her original aluminum outdoor wall and table features. She enjoys watching people interpreting her artwork and creating their own environmental story from it.
