The year is 2530. Humans have long since left planet Earth. After mistreating the natural environment for centuries, they were forced to see a new home beyond the stars. What remains is little more than an abandoned pile of decaying infrastructure, appliances, and a scattered population of LEGO minifigs. Built for the young and young-at-heart, using found objects, LEGO, mixed media and multiple layers of storytelling; RELICS; Bricks of the New World is a timely exploration of adaptation, sustainability, diversity and the connections we make with one another. Free to the public, no booking required.

Featuring music from composers such as Django Reinhardt, Edith Piaf, Cole Porter, Serge Gainsbourg and Jacques Brel (to name only a few), Sassafras has recently completed their debut album set for official release later in the year. • Dates:May 30
  • Time(s):6.00pm
  • Venue:Astor Theatre

Details

  • Hosted By:David Roy Williams
  • Event Venue:Astor Theatre
  • Music:Concert Tours,Rock

Description

Following the one/two punch of “Nursery Cryme” & “Foxtrot”, both driven by the muscular guitars of new member Steve Hackett, Genesis were ready to launch what would become their finest album, “Selling England By The Pound”.

Easing back on the throttle marginally, and immersing themselves in English whimsy and eccentricity, Genesis delivered just under an hour of delicate prose, wondrous melodies and, of course, the soaring leadlines of Steve Hackett.

Finally, now, 47 years after the album’s release, Steve Hackett will be performing “Selling England By The Pound” in full in a series of Australian and New Zealand concerts.

“I think (Genesis) really nailed the best of what that band as an entity could have done with that album.” Neil Peart (Rush)

“… a complexity of tone that’s pretty rare in any kind of art.” Robert Christgau

“the definitive Genesis album” Fish (formerly of Marillion)

In addition, in celebration of the 40th anniversary of its release, Steve will be performing his critically acclaimed solo album “Spectral Mornings”.

“Spectral Mornings is a superb disc from one of the genre’s all-time greatest guitarists. Five stars!” Prog archives

If that’s not enough, Steve will perform selections from his stunning new album “At The Edge Of Light”, and may even be munificent enough to throw in another couple of Genesis tunes.

“I’m excited to bring my Genesis Revisited show back to Australia and New Zealand. It was fantastic to play there last time and to visit those amazing countries. This time will be a special show, including the whole of Genesis album Selling England by the Pound, celebrating my solo album Spectral Mornings 40th anniversary, plus more! I can’t wait!” Steve Hackett

Description

This exhibition attempts to showcase works of art that reflect the depth of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander art and culture, with other aspects of the Aboriginal condition. As a result, radical observations about the ups and downs of life will, at times, weave in and out of stories about Country. Equally, across the show, visitors will encounter passages of serenity, corridors of tradition, and trails that speak to the upheavals experienced by generations of Indigenous people. Balancing Act features the work of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists living and working across the State and Australia. Works of art by local Noongar artists such as Revel Cooper (dec.), Sandra Hill, Dianne Jones and Shane Pickett (dec.) sit loud-and-proud among those by Richard Bell, Karla Dickens, Julie Dowling and Brian Robinson to name a few of the many stellar artists in the show.
