Details
Description
We are the longest running organisation of our kind in the Southern Hemisphere.
As WA’s main community based GLBT service provider our main focus is on providing essential services to the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender communities, including our peer counselling phone line and social support groups. We also offer a number of training options for the general community, ranging from one-hour personal perspectives talks to half- and full-day workplace training in diverse sexuality and gender. We also have a successful history of running funded projects, often in partnership with other community groups.
Mission
Gay and Lesbian Community Services of WA (Inc.) is a non-profit organisation which aims to promote the wellbeing of lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, intersex, queer and other sexuality, sex and gender diverse people in Western Australia.
Brief History
GLCS was established in 1974 as the Homosexual Counselling and Information Service of WA. In 1984 the name was changed to the Gay Counselling Service of WA and the organisation became an incorporated body. In keeping with worldwide trends to recognise the contribution and needs of women in the community, the name of the service was changed in 1990 to the Gay and Lesbian Counselling Service of WA (Inc). In 1999 the name was changed again to the Gay and Lesbian Community Services of WA (Inc) to reflect the wider range of services that GLCS provides. We are the oldest service of our kind in the Southern Hemisphere.
Funding
GLCS receives some funding from the Health Department of WA. While this money is much appreciated and essential, it covers only our basic costs. Our ability to provide our essential services is dependent on the efforts of our volunteers and additional income from financial memberships, donations and fundraising.

Neurofibromatosis Association of WA Inc
To support neurofibromatosis sufferers and their carers by bringing families and individuals together and to promote awareness within the community, particularly amongst medical practitioners.
- Type:Charity
- Charity:Information & Referral
Details
Description
Neurofibromatosis (NF) is one of the most common genetic conditions and can affect anyone, regardless of family history, race, gender, or ethnic background.
There are three types of NF, type 1 (NF1), type 2 (NF2), and the lesser known Schwannomatosis. NF1 affects approximately one out of every 3-4,000 individuals. NF2 and Schwannomatosis affect one out of every 35-40,000 individuals.
NF is characterized by the growth of benign tumours called neurofibromas. These tumours can grow anywhere in the body where there are nerve cells. This includes nerves just under the surface of the skin, as well as nerves deeper within the body, spinal cord, and/or brain.
In NF1, neurofibromas most commonly grow on the skin or on the nerve to the eye. A tumour which grows on the nerve to the eye is called an optic glioma and, if it grows large enough, can cause problems with vision, including blindness.
In NF2, neurofibromas most commonly grow within the spinal cord or brain. Specifically, the tumours are found on the nerves to the ear, called acoustic neuromas, or the nerves for balance, called vestibular schwannomas. Acoustic neuromas, if large enough, can lead to deafness.

Details
Description
Since its 2012 inception, the Path of Hope Foundation has gained momentum and has become a Major Financial Foundation, Public Ancillary Fund (PuAF) with approved fundraising licenses in all states and territories in Australia. The Path of Hope Foundation is an international project through the Joint Venuture between Rotary and The Salvation Army; two internationally recognised not-for-profit organisations fighting to end domestic violence globally. Rotary International is the fund and volunteer raising arm and The Salvation Army is the operating arm.
Our vision
Our vision is to break the cycle of family and domestic violence by empowering women and enabling them to create positive new pathways. This will lead to women having a greater likelihood of raising their children away from domestic violence enhancing the chance for their children to break the destructive cycle in their lives.
Our mission
Our mission is to provide resources and assistance to women who are vulnerable to, or currently experiencing domestic violence. By providing women with support and guidance, they can become more independent, thereby breaking the cycle of domestic violence. We seek to assist women who are currently experiencing domestic violence by empowering them to take appropriate action and measures to ensure an improved quality of life for themselves and their children.
Refuge at undisclosed location
The Path of Hope Foundation raises funds for The Salvation Army to provide immediate support and refuge for women and their children who are victims of domestic violence. Due to the safety of the women and children the address is not revealed. The Refuge extends support through a unique group of programs and services. It is aimed at assisting with reintegration into society after women have left the Refuge. These services provide an opportunity for women to build networks and connect with the community, thereby breaking the cycle of domestic violence so they, and their children, can have a brighter future and can contribute to the community. Education and role model examples by parents, need to illustrate, from kindergarten level, that violence is not a right of any family member.
