The Room at Luna Outdoor

Grab your friends once again as Wiseau's disasterpiece returns to the big screen for another sensational night of the cult phenomenon that’s so bad it’s good!

  • Dates:Apr 18
  • Venue:Luna Outdoor Cinema
  • Time(s):7:30pm

Details

  • Other:Outdoor Movies,Film Events
  • Hosted By:Luna Palace Cinemas
  • Event Venue:Luna Outdoor

Description

The Room is basically a love triangle set in a San Francisco apartment building. But it’s filled with subplots that go nowhere, dodgy green-screen skylines, lots of un-sexy sex scenes and acting that wouldn't pass muster on a soft-focus soapie. The Room has garnered a massive worldwide cult following (especially in Perth!) leaving audiences stunned and laughing and is beloved by comic actors such as Kristen Bell, Paul Rudd and Alec Baldwin. Friends, dress as your favourite character, wear tuxedos, bring roses, toss footballs, eat metaphoric apples and yell insulting comments about the quality of the film, as well as lines from the film itself. Be prepared for a really wild evening. You won't forget it, that's for sure. A strange, bizarre and unique cinematic experience!

Description

The government is in panic and considers accepting defeat, but recently promoted two-star General Charles de Gaulle (The Translators, AF FFF20 Lambert Wilson), wants to change the course of history... The biographical drama is one of French cinema’s most established and beloved genres, and Gabriel Le Bomin’s spectacularly mounted De Gaulle stirringly depicts a crucial period in the life of one of the most famous figures in the nation’s modern history, doing it enormous justice in the process. His wife, Yvonne (Isabelle Carré, Delicious, Moving On, AF FFF21), is his first support, but very quickly events spiral out of control and separate them - she and their children set out on the roads of exodus, as Charles travels to London to meet with Winston Churchill. He wants to make another voice heard: that of resistance. Matching the impact and scale of recent war dramas The Darkest Hour and The King’s Choice as it depicts crucial incidents in gripping tick-tock fashion, Le Bomin expertly mixes the historic and the Romanesque, charting both a military debacle and the eventual revelation of a destiny.

Description

As a 15-year-old student nearing the end of his first year at the Vienna Conservatory, Gustav Mahler composed one movement of a piano quartet, a work that always gives the impression that something bigger is struggling to emerge. Following Mahler’s own tradition of enlarging certain chamber pieces, this program includes an orchestration of the quartet, made by the outstanding violinist Harry Ward: an ANAM alumnus and a Musica Viva FutureMaker.

Alfred Schnittke was keenly aware of his Soviet/German musical heritage, even as he stomped on it in heavy boots. Yet his piano concerto is a touching affirmation of his artistic roots, and his affection for Tchaikovsky makes the two Russians good bedfellows, the elder’s Serenade here prefaced by Estonian composer Mihkel Kerem’s Lamento, a work of searing beauty.

ANAM’s ensemble of wonderful young string players is directed with equal verve by the terrific Sophie Rowell, one of Australia’s most admired instrumentalists. They are joined onstage by Adelaide’s brilliant, Russian-trained Konstantin Shamray.
