Whilst our work practices are somewhat 'eclectic', we produce art that unites us as exhibiting artists both through our group experience and through the thematic approaches to our exhibitions. Our group members are skilled in painting, photography, textiles, mixed media, printmaking, sculpture, ceramics and jewellery. Each exhibition held has showcased a different blend of both 2D and 3D artworks. This exhibition reveals each artist's response to the theme 'Linked Beyond'. Ideas that inform this body of work include - 'going beyond the boundary of the city into country', 'the feelings evoked by the delightful town of York and its people', 'acknowledging the rich, expansive Indigenous and European history' and 'the feeling of more space - the distance between'.

  • Dates:May 20 - June 20, every night except Monday
  • Time(s):Every half-hour from 6:15pm until 8:45pm
  • Venue:Perth Cultural Centre

Details

  • Hosted By:Realscape Productions
  • Performing Arts:Theatre

Description

COMA is set in a 40ft sea-container, each wall lined with bunk beds. Audience members lie down in a bed, each becoming separated from their counterparts. Alone in the darkness, the multi-sensory elements engulf each participant, suggestive of the show’s own namesake. Imagine the moment of waking up is actually the moment when your dream begins. In light of this new and strange reality, how can we save you from the unspeakable horrors which lurk in the dark recesses of your mind? The only cure we offer is a placebo and a promise. Please remember when you leave, to take your body with you. The setting is clinical and reminiscent of a hospital ward, and despite being created prior to COVID-19, it becomes more relevant and confronting now that the pandemic is ever-present. As with all Darkfield experiences, a strange world is built from 360 degree binaural sound that perplexes the senses, deepening the immersion by casting doubt on what is real and what is imagined. Loss of vision heightens the remaining senses, making them vulnerable to manipulation.

INNOMINATE - an exposition by Sioux Tempestt

Distinctly unlike the often clinical white-walled gallery experience, INNOMINATE conflates art, architecture and the urban landscape with video to challenge the traditional art exhibition ideology.

  • Dates:May 28 - Jun 25
  • Venue:Civic Hotel

Details

  • Ticket Price:Free
  • Type:Free
  • Art Exhibitions:Other Visual Arts

Description

Curated by Sandra Murray. Opening night event Friday 28 May, 6pm | Free admission - RSVP Required. The interpretations comprise a series of emotionally charged mixed media works. Scribbled ramblings from the artist’s journal glimpse between layers of deconstructed photographs, spray paint and gaffa tape. Mural-style works transform external walls of the building, leading viewers inside. A darkened room plays host to video and large works on board. Billboard-style posters and smaller works on card are sectioned with paint in a separate room. The integration of banal objects heightens curiosity and adds context to the works. 'As an inner-city dweller, I am interested in photographing scenes of the unremarkable. I find quiet beauty in the ugliness of the ordinary. A narrative of exposing the anonymous unfolds through manipulation, the rhythmic repetition and overlapping of imagery gouges beyond the superficial.' Accompanying the exhibition is the release of a limited edition 48 page book containing exhibition works, digital compositions & poetry. The exhibition runs until Friday 25 June 2021. Check Facebook for opening hours. The project has been made possible thanks to funding through the City of Stirling’s Community Creativity Fund. Supported by the Civic Hotel, Inglewood.

Towla is a multipage two-colour book printed by the artist that sets out the rules of Backgammon phonetically in both Arabic and Latin alphabet. The Arabic text spell the instructions in Latin and the Latin spell the instructions in Arabic. This instruction manual presents a dialogue about cross-cultural disconnection and translation, bound together with family history. Deanna suggests that differences between generations and peoples of different backgrounds and beliefs can be overcome by sitting down and talking to each other. The work also articulates the joys and challenges of growing up as a first generation Australian. Deanna co-wrote the translations with her late father Antonios El Hitti and her close friend Katarina Achkar. Object of the Game includes new work by Deanna, an interpretive animated video projection on how to play the game, narrated by the artist, and a public program involving Backgammon tuition and demonstrations.

It’s given me the opportunity to do some travelling and touring overseas, but it wouldn’t feel right if I didn’t celebrate where we are going, but more importantly where we have been, I cannot wait to return and take my little band family and the wonderful Kira Puru on the road for the “Homecoming Queen Tour”
