For the first time ever in WA, an incredibly special ensemble of musical friends will be bringing life to a treasure trove of unearthed songs written by David McComb in the 90s.

Description

Over the past couple of years, some friends of David McComb, lead singer and songwriter from acclaimed Australian band The Triffids, have been bringing to life a treasure trove of superb songs from his pen. These are songs that were not recorded, most not yet written, during the Triffids’ span in the 70s and 80s, rather they were written in Melbourne and London in the 90s and never properly recorded for various reasons. For the first time ever in WA, an incredibly special ensemble of David’s musical friends will bring these unearthed songs alive at Fremantle Arts Centre.

Description

This year marks Spare Parts Puppet Theatre’s 40th anniversary, and the seventh annual collaboration between the Fremantle-based company and WAAPA’s Performance Making students. This exciting partnership introduces our students to the world of visual storytelling through the physical and imaginative demands of puppet theatre. For their final show before they graduate, all of the students’ creative inventiveness will be let loose to bring Spare Parts’ history, building, surrounding parkland, and favourite puppets to magical life! Under the direction of Michael Barlow, SPPT’s Associate Director, the students will create a promenade performance as the centrepiece of celebrations of 40 years of contemporary puppetry, made in wonder.

The White Ladder Tour will see Gray perform the iconic 7 million record-selling record in its entirety, together with all the original band members and with all the original equipment – followed by a set of the greatest hits.

Written and recorded on a minimal budget by Gray in the bedroom of a tiny terraced house in Stoke Newington, David experimented with drum machines and electronic elements, creating a blend of folktronica that has since become a familiar part of the musical landscape. White Ladder boasts classic hit singles ‘Babylon’, ‘Please Forgive Me’ and ‘Sail Away’. It remains in the top 30 best-selling British albums of all time, is the best-selling album ever in Ireland, selling two times platinum in Australia and three times platinum in New Zealand.

Description

Taking place at Fremantle Arts Centre on the second Tuesday of each month, the morning tea is for people living with dementia; an informal and social affair where people can feel welcomed and accepted, remain socially active and make new friends.

In recognising the need to encourage inclusion of people living with dementia in the local community, Alzheimer’s WA has partnered with local Government and businesses to bring the Memory Café concept to Western Australia.

Do you, a family member or friend live with dementia? Visit this Memory Café, enjoy a coffee and some great conversation.
