Description
How to be a Better Man in 2019 is a social intervention performance exploring intersections of role-play, identity and histories in live contemporary art approach.
In a practice of performed autobiography, Australian-born, New York based Bonnie Lane challenges the authorship of voice in a time of excessively public self-told narrative. Heteronormative conventions are subverted by collaging documents from her personal archive into context-based artist lectures, readings, videos, dance performances, and online social interventions that reverse traditional gender roles of the object and the subject, the artist and the muse. In a play of power, the audience of her artwork-cum-consumer of her body [as commodity] become both consequential spectator and participant in her subsequent narratives.
