Description

On February 10, the Friends of ANZAC Cottage will pay tribute to the members of the Mount Hawthorn community who contributed so much to build ANZAC Cottage, the first WWI memorial in WA Talks at 1:45pm and 2:45pm will reveal more about the workers who helped to make this historic icon a reality.

As he toiled in the fierce February heat in 1916 assisting in the building of ANZAC Cottage, little did William Henry Lamond realise that he was building a memorial to himself.

On February 10, at ANZAC Cottage, the Friends of ANZAC Cottage will pay tribute to William and other members of the Mount Hawthorn community who so willingly contributed money, building materials, furniture, their skills and so much more to this imaginative project.

Talks at 1:45pm and 2:45pm will reveal more about William and some of the other 200 workers who helped to make this historic icon a reality.  One can only imagine how amazed these men and women would be if they knew that their work would still be honoured and respected 103 years on! The Friends invite you to join us as we celebrate the anniversary of the Cottage’s construction.
