A new play celebrating the 100th anniversary of the life and achievements of the first woman elected to an Australian Parliament - Western Australia's Edith Cowan.
In 2021 it will be 100 years since Edith Cowan became the first woman elected to Parliament when she became the Member for West Perth in the Western Australian Legislative Assembly. The achievements of this social reformer, who campaigned for the rights and welfare of women and children, are celebrated in this new play, 'With Fire in Her Heart: The Edith Cowan Story'. Adapted from a screenplay by writer Trevor Todd, and directed by WAAPA lecturer Dr Gabrielle Metcalf, it is performed as part of Fringe World at Girls School on selected dates from 27 January to 7 February 2021.
