Description
The Australian Government and Regional Arts WA are pleased to bring the Family Shoveller Band to Christmas Island and Cocos (Keeling) Islands this March and April.
Hailing from the remote community of Bidyadanga, south of Broome, the Family Shoveller Band were introduced to music at a young age and taught by their father Frankie Shoveller. The three brothers play a fusion of reggae, pop, rock and contemporary music, with Francis Shoveller on drums, Billy-Jo Shoveller on guitar and lead vocals and Jordan Wright on bass. Singing in both language and English, their music tells stories about Karajarri culture and the Family Shoveller Band way of living.
Family Shoveller Band’s debut, Brother, received widespread airplay across the indigenous radio networks following its release in 2011. In 2016 they recorded their second album – Feel So Free. With a wealth of touring and performance experience, including Nannup Music Festival, 2019’s State Of The Art – Celebrate WA, and plenty of sold-out regional shows, these fellas are sure to get the audience up and dancing.
