Description

That Wanaka Tree, also known as the "lone tree of Lake Wanaka," is a famous willow tree that stands alone in the middle of Lake Wanaka in New Zealand.

It has become a symbol of New Zealand tourism and is one of the most photographed trees in the country. The tree is located at the south end of Lake Wanaka, framed by the stunning Southern Alps, and is said to be one of the most beautiful trees in the world. The tree is so popular that it has its own hashtag on Instagram, #ThatWanakaTree, and thousands of photographers and tourists flock to the area to capture their own unique shots of the tree.

Despite its popularity, the tree is not easy to find. There are no signs directing people to the solitary tree, and it is just enough off the beaten path to not be bothered by too many tourists unless they have done their research. The tree is right at the foothills of Mount Aspiring National Park, a World Heritage Site, and acts as a doorway into even more breathtaking landscapes that embody the South Island of New Zealand. Visitors can park at the nearby car park and walk along the beach to get a closer look at the tree. The best time to visit is during sunrise or sunset when the light is low and colorful, and the view is not bleached out by the midday sun. At this time of day, visitors are more likely to find the lone tree of Lake Wanaka, all alone.

Wanaka is a beautiful town with many other attractions besides the Wanaka Tree. Visitors can explore the surrounding mountains and lakes, go hiking, skiing, or snowboarding, or visit the nearby Rippon Vineyard, which is known for its scenic views and delicious wine. There are also many shops and restaurants in downtown Wanaka, making it a great place to spend a day.
