Description

Te Puia, located in Rotorua, New Zealand, is a must-visit destination for anyone traveling to the area.

This geothermal wonderland is home to the largest active geyser in the Southern Hemisphere, Pohutu Geyser, and the New Zealand Maori Arts and Crafts Institute, which trains the next generation of artists from around the country. Visitors can join one of Te Puia's world-famous guided experiences, which showcase the geothermal valley, Maori culture, and Kiwi Conservation Centre with Kiwi Birds in a state-of-the-art enclosure.

Te Puia is a wonderland of dramatic geysers, bubbling mud pools, and beautiful native bush, explored by personalized guided tours. The valley is not just about the geothermal activity, but also the home of what was once known as the New Zealand Maori Arts and Crafts Institute, now the national schools for wood carving (Te Wananga Whakairo Rakau), weaving (Te Rito), and stone carving. Students apply from different tribes around the country to attend the three-year diploma courses taught by master craftsmen and craftswomen.

Te Puia's Kiwi Conservation Centre offers visitors the opportunity to get closer than ever before to New Zealand's national treasure, the Native Kiwi bird. The centre features state-of-the-art nocturnal enclosures, where visitors can see the five kiwis onsite. Te Puia's restaurant, Pataka Kai, overlooks the geothermal valley and offers delectable dishes. Hiakai Cafe serves fresh coffee and cabinet food each day of operation. Motorized Waka rides run each day of operation from Wednesday to Sunday, taking visitors down to the geothermal valley and Kiwi Conservation Centre.

Te Puia is a proud member of the Rotorua Sustainable Charter, and the world-renowned Agrodome features Rotorua's favorite Farm Tour, Farm Show, and their newest furry resident, Shaun the Sheep! In summary, Te Puia is a unique and fascinating destination that offers visitors a glimpse into the magic hidden within Te Whakarewarewa Thermal Valley. With its dramatic geysers, bubbling mud pools, Maori cultural experiences, and Kiwi Conservation Centre, Te Puia is a must-visit destination for anyone traveling to Rotorua, New Zealand.
