Description

Hobbiton Village is a must-visit destination for fans of The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit trilogies.

Located in the heart of the Waikato region in New Zealand, it is a fully guided tour around a 12-acre set that takes visitors through the lush pastures of the Shire. The movie set is located on the Alexander family sheep farm, which was spotted by acclaimed director Sir Peter Jackson when he was scouting for potential movie sets. The farm spans 1,250 acres and offers spectacular views across to the Kaimai Ranges.

To get to Hobbiton Village, visitors can rent a car and drive there on their own or take bus tours starting from Auckland that do all the driving for them. Once there, visitors are taken on a short bus ride through the beauty of the land, with the mighty Kaimai Ranges towering in the distance. The tour then proceeds on foot, with a guide escorting visitors around the movie set, showing the intricate detailing, pointing out the most famous locations, and explaining how the movie magic was made. Visitors will journey around the 12-acre set, past Hobbit Holes, the Mill, and into the world-famous Green Dragon Inn, where they will be presented with a complimentary, exclusive Hobbit Southfarthing beverage to conclude their own Middle-earth adventure.

Hobbiton Village is a photogenic place that is a popular tourist attraction in the North Island of New Zealand. Visitors can take pictures of the lush, green hills and pristine setting that make them feel like they are in Middle-earth, worlds away from all their problems and about as far as they can get from Mount Doom. The park is very environmentally friendly and is a blockbuster to take pictures. Visitors can also take a look at Bag End, where Frodo and Bilbo’s adventures began, and get lost among the Hobbit Holes. From March to December 2023, a major and very exciting development project will be underway on the movie set. Visitors can also opt for tours that venture beyond the door and into the fully themed interior of a Hobbit Hole on Bagshot.
