Ascension Wine Estate Function Centre & Winery is a beautiful vineyard located in Matakana, New Zealand, just 40 minutes north of Auckland.

The estate is situated amongst the vines of Matakana, and has its own rustic cellar door and function center, making it the perfect location for wine tasting and tours, functions, and handcrafted boutique wines. Planted in 1996, the four hectares of Ascension’s Vines was one of the first vineyards in the Matakana region. Although young by world standards, they have a selection of traditional and unusual grape varieties plated onsite. The free draining iron-rich Matakana clay, warm maritime climate, and superb northerly aspect at Ascension have produced wines that are both widely acclaimed in the press and keenly sought by wine enthusiasts.

The venue hosts concerts, immaculate weddings, and stylish corporate events in the Belfry, a fully self-contained function center, as well as many locations stretched over the estate. The rustic cellar door and function center offer the perfect location for wine tasting and tours, functions, and handcrafted boutique wines. The venue is known for its gigs as much as it is for its wines. It is hard to miss with its Italian-style architecture and sweeping rows of vines. It’s easy to stop off at their cellar door for a tasting and buy a couple of chosen bottles to save for later. Just as impressive is their restaurant, opening up to a courtyard built for summer that teases you to stay a little longer.

Wine tastings and tours at Ascension are a fun experience, with three options to choose from. The Standard Tasting & Tour gives guests a 45-minute tour and tasting, letting you into the winery itself. The Premium Tasting & Tour includes a walk through the vineyard (weather permitting), followed by a look at the winery and a tasting of six premium wines. The Private Tasting & Tour is a personalized experience that includes a private tasting of six wines, a vineyard tour, and a cheese platter.
