Description

The Cathedral of St Patrick and St Joseph, also known as St Patrick's Cathedral, is a Catholic church located in the central business district of Auckland, New Zealand.

It is the mother church of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Auckland and the cathedral of the Bishop of Auckland. The site of the cathedral has been the spiritual center of Catholicism in Auckland since the early 1840s and is part of New Zealand's oldest Catholic cathedral complex.

The Cathedral of St Patrick and St Joseph is a significant example of brick-built Gothic Revival architecture and is the third place of worship to occupy the site. The completed Cathedral seated 1300 and was dedicated in 1908. The Cathedral has outstanding historical significance as the site of New Zealand's oldest Catholic cathedral complex and as the resting place of the remains of George Michael Lenihan (1858-1910), Bishop of Auckland at the time this work occurred. The Cathedral is a beautiful white wooden building with polished wood and Belgian stained glass that bring warmth to the interior of this magnificent Gothic Revival church.

The Cathedral of St Patrick and St Joseph serves the Catholic Diocese of Auckland in Aotearoa New Zealand. It is a significant landmark in Auckland and is located in the heart of the city, just a few meters from the Sky Tower. The Cathedral is open to visitors and offers guided tours, which provide a fascinating insight into the history and architecture of the building. The Cathedral is also a popular venue for weddings and other events. Its rich history, stunning architecture, and vibrant liturgical life make it a must-visit destination for anyone interested in religious or architectural tourism.
