Description

Hutt Lagoon, also known as Yallabatharra to the local Aboriginal people, is a natural wonder situated on the West Coast of Australia.

The lagoon is a vibrant pink colour, sometimes lilac and even red, making it a surreal sight to behold. If you're coming from Perth, following the Indian Ocean Drive is the fastest and most direct route. The drive takes approximately 6 hours, and once you pass Kalbarri, you should be able to catch your first glimpse of the lagoon within 30 minutes. If you're travelling from Geraldton, a scenic flight will provide a unique and unforgettable view of the lagoon's striking contrast with the Indian Ocean.

The high level of salinity in the lagoon is what gives it its unique and captivating hue. The colours of the lagoon change throughout the seasons and time of day. To witness the remarkable colour transformation, we recommend visiting on a clear day around mid-morning or sunset. There are several spots along Port Gregory Road where you can stop and take in the natural phenomenon. The picturesque fishing village of Port Gregory is nestled between the lagoon and the beach. You can pick up refreshments at the general store and choose from farmstays, chalets, beach cottages, and the caravan park for your overnight stay.

The best time to visit the region is between July and September, when the countryside is blanketed in wildflowers. The blooming wildflowers create a dazzling landscape, making it a breathtaking sight that should not be missed. Hutt Lagoon Yallabatharra is a natural wonder that offers a surreal and captivating sight to visitors, and provides a unique and unforgettable experience. Plan your visit accordingly to ensure you make the most
