Puntapin Rock

Puntapin Rock is a prominent granite rock formation located in the Wheatbelt region of Western Australia.

It is well-known in the area and stands out from the surrounding flat plains. Composed of granite, the rock formation is partially recrystallized archean adamellite and has some lighter-colored veins. Situated in the Yilgarn Block, Puntapin Rock has an elevation of 310 m (1,020 ft) and covers an exposed area of 42.5 ha (105 acres).

The Puntapin Dam, constructed in 1929 on the north side of the rock, is a popular tourist attraction. It was built to replace the problematic Badgarning Dam, which had issues with constant leakage. The catchment area of the Puntapin Dam is approximately 41 ha (100 acres), designed to capture rainwater. With a capacity of 675,000 L (148,000 imp gal; 178,000 US gal), the tank was used as a water supply for the town of Wagin until it was connected to the Wellington Dam in 1956. Currently, water from the Puntapin Dam is still mixed into the supply from Wellington Dam.

The Puntapin Rock area is now open to visitors and offers a range of recreational activities. It is a great spot for picnics, leisurely walks, and enjoying the scenery. Visitors are allowed to access the summit of the rock, where they can enjoy a panoramic view of the Wheatbelt region, Dumbleyung Lake, and the surrounding farmland. The area is equipped with
