Description

Bilya Walk Track is an initiative by "Toodyay Friends of the River" that allows visitors to explore and appreciate the cultural, heritage, and environmental values of Avon River.

The 6.9-kilometer track extends one way from Toodyay Caravan Park to Nardie Cemetery, offering picturesque views of the town's historical buildings and leading visitors to explore the Sheoak and Paperbark thicket.

As you walk along the track, several seating points provide a vantage point to relish the riverside views. One such spot includes Red Banks Pool, where you can visit the John Masters Bird Hide and spot some of the water birds that frequent the river. The Bird Hive features interpretative signage that tells the story of the local aboriginals.

Another attraction close to the Bilya Walk Track is Extracts Weir and Millards Pool. It is a popular viewing point for the annual Avon Descent and a favorite spot for kayaking and canoeing. Millards Pool was also Toodyay's original and only swimming pool.

Towards the end of the track, you will reach Nardie Cemetery, where the remnants of the once-thriving citrus orchards lead visitors. The cemetery houses the graves of many of Toodyay's pioneers, offering a glimpse into the town's rich history.

Bilya Walk Track is open throughout the year. Toodyay is approximately 85 kilometers from Perth, and it takes about an hour and a half
