Description

Mount Mackenzie Nature Reserve spans over 141 hectares and was established in December 1999.

It is located approximately 5 kilometers southwest of Tenterfield in Country NSW. The reserve is home to a tall open forest ecosystem with rare and endangered plant species.

The main attraction in the reserve is the Mount Mackenzie Scenic Lookout, situated almost 1,300 meters above sea level. It offers breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding landscape, including Boonoo Boonoo tableland, Bald Rock, Boonoo Boonoo National Parks, and Girraween National Park. Visitors can also enjoy picnics, BBQs, and beautiful sunrises or sunsets at the lookout point. The lookout is cooler in summers and the first place to observe snow in winters.

Facilities in the reserve include BBQs, picnic tables, picnic shelters, and toilets.

The Mount Mackenzie Scenic Lookout can be visited throughout the year, but summers and winters are considered the best time to visit.

To reach the lookout, visitors can travel along the Mount Mackenzie Lookout Road, a sealed road located 13 kilometers from Tenterfield. Alternatively, they can take the one-hour, 38-kilometer-long Mount Mackenzie Scenic Drive, which showcases the town's picturesque surrounds.

For any queries, visitors can contact the Tenterfield office on 02 6736 4298 or email npws.ntab@environment.nsw.gov.au. The office is open from Monday to Friday, 8.30 am to 4.30 pm.
