Description

Located in Templestowe, an eastern suburb of Melbourne, Westerfolds Park is a metropolitan park that conserves riparian habitat within the Melbourne urban environment.

It offers a range of recreational facilities, including paths, shelters, playgrounds, picnic tables, electric BBQs, and more. The park is a popular destination for picnics and family gatherings, with activities such as walking, cycling, rollerblading, canoeing, horseback riding, and bird-watching.

Westerfolds Park has a rich history and was established as part of the Yarra Valley Parklands in 1977. Parks Victoria took over its management in 1978 and has since implemented revegetation and conservation programs. The park now boasts over 400 native plant species, including eucalypts, acacias, river red gums, and native grasses and shrubs. Late winter and early spring are particularly beautiful times to visit, as the wattle trees bloom throughout the park.

The park is part of the main Yarra River Trail, providing access to the Yarra River valley and Melbourne CBD for cyclists and walkers. Cyclists can reach the park via the 4 km Diamond Creek Trail from Eltham Station.

Westerfolds Park offers various facilities, including toilets, barbecues, designated picnic areas, information boards, viewing platforms, and ample parking spaces. The park is open every day from 8:30 am to 5:00 pm, extending to 8:00 pm or 9:00 pm during daylight saving time and peak summer periods. Access to the park is available through gates on Porter Street and Fitzsimmons Lane, while pedestrian and cycling pathways remain open at all hours. The Mia Mia Gallery
