Description
Fauré’s ethereal Requiem is paired with the rhythmic energy of John Peterson’s rhythmic Shadows and Light, a work inspired by both the texts of the requiem mass and the headlines of September 11, 2001
This concert embraces the energy and the healing power of choral singing.
Gabriel Fauré’s Requiem stands apart from its more theatrical counterparts. Instead of fire-and-brimstone drama, it’s consoling and contemplative – a ‘lullaby of death’.
Samuel Barber’s Adagio for Strings – long associated with mourning and tragedy – is the cathartic interlude in this profoundly moving concert.
But the key to this program is not death but rest (requiem).
