Description

The Adelaide International Bird Sanctuary National Park - Winaityinaityi Pangkara is located on the northeast coast of Gulf St.

Vincent, extending from Adelaide to Parham. It was established by the South Australian government in 2016 for multiple purposes, covering an extensive stretch of coastline known as the Samphire Coast.

The park has several objectives, including the protection of habitat for migrating shorebirds, management of water quality in Gulf St. Vincent, creation of a "green" space for stormwater recycling and carbon absorption, development of niche tourism experiences for birdwatchers, and engagement of Aboriginal people in environmental and cultural heritage programs.

The park covers a distance of 60 kilometers (37 miles) from Barker Inlet to Parham and overlaps with other protected areas such as conservation parks and aquatic reserves. In 2013, additional land was purchased for the park's expansion.

The project was committed to by the Australian Government after the State Election in March 2014. The formal announcement and land purchase were made in August 2014, with ongoing maintenance expected to be completed in 2018. The park was officially proclaimed as the Adelaide International Bird Sanctuary National Park - Winaityinaityi Pangkara in October 2016.
