Description

The Gondwana Rainforests of Australia World Heritage Area is a nature reserve located in Queensland and New South Wales.

It includes the Scenic Rim and rainforests in northern New South Wales. The area was extended by the UNESCO World Heritage Committee in 1994 and included in the Australian National Heritage List in 2007. The Springbrook National Park is part of this World Heritage site.

The Mount Cougal section of the Springbrook National Park is located in Queensland, approximately 20 kilometers from Currumbin. It was established in 1938 and merged with the Springbrook National Park in 1990. The section is named after Mount Cougal, which has two peaks, the East peak and the West peak. The peaks are 694 meters above sea level and were named Ningeroongun and Barrajanda by the local Aboriginal community. The only facilities and tracks are located at Cougal's Cascades, the headwaters of Currumbin Creek.

The Natural Bridge in the Springbrook National Park is a rock arch over Cave Creek. It was formed by a waterfall that undercut a cave and created a pothole on top. Commercial operators provide night tours to the cave, which is home to a colony of glowworms. Swimming is not allowed in the area to protect the glowworm habitat.

The Springbrook Plateau section of the Springbrook National Park features several waterfalls that can be seen along short tracks. Visitors can have picnics, explore nature, and enjoy various walks in a natural environment. The section has observation points and lookouts.

The Gondwana Rainforests of Australia World Heritage Area has a cool climate at an average elevation of 600 to 1,000
