Description

Redmond Stairs in South Perth, located at Redmond Reserve, is a popular riverside nature space that offers a peaceful walk for visitors.

The City of South Perth is replacing the stairs with a new raised stairway and three viewing platforms to improve safety and accessibility. The new stairs will be wider and less steep, and the project includes ecological preservation by revegetating the bushland with local endemic trees and plants. Redmond Reserve is part of a protected bushland area that is home to threatened species of plants and wildlife.

The project is part of the City's Clontarf-Waterford-Salter Point Masterplan, which recognizes the ecological, cultural, and recreational values of the area. It marks the completion of the City's staged upgrade to the nature walk loop in Redmond Reserve, which also included rehabilitating the boardwalk and adding a second set of stairs at Sulman Avenue.

The Redmond Reserve project began in September 2021 with the construction of the new raised stairway. The new-look Redmond Stairs in Salter Point have already become a popular attraction and will officially open in August 2022.

To get to Redmond Reserve, visitors can take Manning Road or Kwinana Freeway South and turn off at Como if coming from Perth. Parking is available on Redmond Street, Salter Point. The reserve is an ideal destination for a peaceful walk throughout the year, offering the opportunity to see various bird species and enjoy the view of the Swan River. It is recommended to avoid visiting during the hot months of the Australian summer, from December to February.
