Description

Black Swan Habitat is an artificial island on the Swan River that provides a safe nesting area for waterbirds.

The project aims to repair damaged river walls and create essential habitat for wildlife along the South Perth foreshore. Volunteers monitor birdlife around the habitat each week to assess its effectiveness.

The Black Swan Habitat offers ideal conditions for waterbirds to thrive, providing a protected nesting and feeding ground away from people, bikes, and dogs. Visitors can observe different species of birds nesting on the island, including swans, ducks, and other waterbirds. There is also a beach area that allows waterbirds to take off and land safely on windy days.

The habitat is accessible all year round, with the best time to go bird watching being at dawn or dusk when most birds are active. It is located on the Swan River in South Perth and can be easily reached by car or public transport. Visitors can park at the South Perth Foreshore or catch a bus from Perth or Fremantle to South Perth.

Bloody Bridge is a historic bridge built during the Second Settlement by convict labour. Its name is based on a story about the death of a convict work-gang overseer. During the building of the bridge, a work gang murdered their overseer and walled him up in the bridge. The next day, the replacement overseer saw blood oozing from the mortar, giving the bridge its name.

Kingston is a historic town located on Norfolk Island. It has several historical sites, including the Prisoner's Barracks, Emily Bay, and the Commissariat Store. Quality Row and the St Barnabas Chapel are also worth visiting. Visitors can take a virtual tour of Kingston or explore the town on foot.
