Rockingham Lakes Regional Park

Rockingham Lakes Regional Park is a conservation park located in the City of Rockingham, approximately 40 kilometres (25 mi) south of Perth, Western Australia.

Established in 1997, the park covers a non-continuous area of 4,270 hectares (10,600 acres) and occupies approximately 16 percent of the area of the City of Rockingham.

The purpose of Rockingham Lakes and other regional parks in the Perth region is to preserve and restore cultural heritage and valuable ecosystems, while also encouraging sustainable nature-based recreation activities. The park contains remnants of the Swan Coastal Plain and two threatened ecological communities, Thrombolites and Sedgelands, providing evidence of sea-level changes over the past 7,000 years.

The concept of regional parks in Western Australia was first proposed in 1955, and the Rockingham Lakes Regional Park was established in 1997. The park is non-continuous, with different areas separated by major roads and smaller roads. Some areas, such as Lake Cooloongup and Lake Walyungup, are potentially contaminated with unexploded ordnance from their use as artillery ranges during World War II.
