Description

Pingelly was originally just a railway siding built by the Western Australian Land Company in 1889 and the town grew around it.

The original townsite was at Moorumbine 10km east, though the rail line needed to be in closer proximity to the Avon River to support steam engine operations. A small siding was constructed next to the Pingeculling Spring (Aboriginal name for watering place) which inspired the development and growth of a new town site.
