Description

Swan River Foreshore, also known as Perth Water, is a beautiful section of the Swan River located on the southern edge of the central business district of Perth, Western Australia.

The foreshore stretches from the Causeway to the east and Narrows Bridge to the west. In fact, landfill from Perth Water was used to create The Esplanade in 1879. Perth Water is an iconic landmark of the City of Perth, and visiting it is a must for any traveler.

Considerable amounts of the north-west section of Perth Water were reclaimed to construct the Narrows Bridge and its approaches, equivalent to the edge of Mounts Bay Road. The Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre now lie on the river side of the former river bank.

Perth Water has been the site of many events over the years, including an annual site for the Australia Day fireworks. The spectacular event is loved by crowds who line the lawns and open space along the foreshores. A great view for the fireworks is from Kings Park due to its elevation and position looking across the Perth Water area. Additionally, the last race in the Red Bull Air Race World Series was held in Perth in 2006, with the competition being centered over Perth Water. Finally, postcards, calendar images, posters, and photographs from most decades in the twentieth century exist showing the view from Kings Park looking across Perth Water to the city.

Perth Water has long served as an important location for jetties, landing, and mooring facilities, especially at Barrack Square Jetty. The Trans
