Description

Supreme Court Gardens, located in the central business district of Perth, Western Australia, is a picturesque park situated between Riverside Drive, Barrack Street, Governors Avenue, and the buildings of the Supreme Court of Western Australia.

Its extensive trees and shrubs provide a natural oasis in the heart of the city.

In the late 1880s, the park's location was covered by the Perth Water, which extended further north than its current boundary. The courthouse, police station, and police stables occupied the land south of the current Supreme Court building. The police buildings were demolished in 1902, and the court underwent expansion, resulting in part of the river being reclaimed. Over the years, the park has undergone many changes, with various small structures in the grounds at different stages.

In the past, the gardens were poorly lit and had several darkened areas due to the vegetation, leading to safety concerns in 1985. Supreme Court Gardens has hosted several significant events and concerts, with many associated with the Perth International Arts Festival. For many years The West Australian newspaper had an annual art show in the grounds. Supreme Court Gardens has undergone many renovations, and its captivating beauty continues to attract visitors. The park offers an outstanding and tranquil spot for anyone to unwind and have a peaceful moment amidst the bustling city.
