Description
Sid Pattni’s residency at Khoj in New Delhi, India, will focus on historical research into Indian miniature painting, concentrating on the impact of colonial rule on artistic patronage in India.
While in New Delhi he will study primary and secondary sources including texts, archival materials and scholarly publications to gain a comprehensive understanding of the art form, enabling him to engage with and reinterpret historical themes while pursuing collaborations with local artists.
Pattni inaugurates a new partnership between PICA and Khoj that enables mid-career artists to develop their work in new cultural contexts, building global networks and sharing their projects with new audiences.
About the Artist
Sid Pattni’s practice centres on the intricacies of identity, culture, and belonging within a post-colonial framework rooted in his Indian-Australian heritage. Pattni won the Kennedy Prize in 2023 and his work has been selected for numerous national prizes, including the Lester Prize, Blake Prize and Arthur Guy Memorial Painting Prize. In 2022, Pattni was awarded the 2022 Minderoo Foundation Artist Fund Grant and was recently invited to speak at TEDx.
