Description

Parramatta Park, located in Western Sydney, Australia, is a vast urban park and historical landmark spanning over 99.5 hectares.

It was established as a National Park in 1917 and was previously known as Burramatta, a territory of the Darug people. The park holds remnants of the Cumberland Plain Woodland, a once widespread ecosystem in the region.

With great historical and archaeological significance, Parramatta Park showcases the rich past of the area. It has been a recreational site for over two centuries, resulting in the presence of numerous artifacts and historical sites. Visitors can explore these remnants and learn about the park's heritage, including traces of the Darug people's culture.

Throughout its history, Parramatta Park has undergone various changes. The extension of the Main Western railway line led to the destruction of Macquarie's stables, and in 1913, part of the park was used for the construction of Parramatta High School. Additionally, the Parramatta Stadium Trust acquired eight hectares of the park in 1981. The park also served as a racecourse for motor racing events in the 1950s, leaving visible remnants of the sport.

Today, Parramatta Park covers 85 hectares and borders the Parramatta River on the western edge of the Parramatta central business district. It is home to Old Government House, a significant tourist attraction built by Governor Macquarie in 1815. The parklands are maintained by the Parramatta Park Trust, established in 2001. Visitors can enjoy a wide range of activities, including picnicking, walking, cycling, exploring historical landmarks, and participating in sports activities, all within one of Sydney's most stunning parklands
