Description

Located on either side of the Old Parliament House, the House of Representatives Garden and Senate Garden offer a serene spot in the heart of the Parliamentary Zone.

These gardens together are called the Old Parliament House Gardens. Originally, the Old Parliament House Gardens were planted with local native plants in the 1920s. Later, during the Great Depression, these gardens were replanted with roses. In 2004, the gardens were restored to their current beauty. These gardens are now owned and maintained by the National Capital Authority.

The Old Parliament House Gardens provide visitors an opportunity to explore the beautiful flower beds, lush lawns, and unique landscape designs. The garden includes a beautiful rose garden, a herb garden and a beautiful fountain in the centre. It's a perfect place for a leisurely picnic or walk with the family. In addition, visitors can play tennis in the gardens with prior booking. Contact Tennis Canberra via email for tennis court bookings.

The Old Parliament House Gardens are open to the public daily from 7:30 am to 5:00 pm except on Good Friday and Christmas Day. The best time to visit is between October to April when the roses are in full bloom. The Old Parliament House Gardens can be easily reached by public transportation. Visitors can take a bus that runs from the city centre or park in a paid parking lot near the Old Parliament House.
