Description

Gibraltar Falls is a magnificent cascade waterfall situated in the Namadgi National Park, Australian Capital Territory.

It is located around 50 kilometres away from Canberra's city centre, in the Gibraltar Creek Pine Forest area along the Corin Road.

The falls can be easily accessed via a gravel track from a well-marked car park. The surrounding Namadgi National Park offers beautiful walking trails that lead to the falls. Visitors can also enjoy a picnic shelter with a gas barbecue and nearby public toilets. Despite limited drainage, Gibraltar Falls remains a popular attraction, with water cascading even during drought conditions.

The habitat around Gibraltar Falls is rich in flora and fauna. Notable species include the vulnerable Alpine Redspot Dragonfly and the rare Austral Pillwort fern. Gibraltar Falls is part of the Gibraltar Falls/Woods Reserve, which is included in the Register of the National Estate and the ACT National Heritage of Australia list. The Reserve covers approximately 170 hectares of land and is located about 7.5 miles (12 kilometres) West North-west of Tharwa.

While visiting the falls, it is important to take necessary precautions. In 2023, a tragic incident occurred where a 19-year-old individual lost their life after falling off the cliffs and into the water. Visitors are advised to stick to marked paths and follow warning instructions to ensure everyone's safety.

Gibraltar Falls is an enchanting destination for nature enthusiasts and tourists looking to explore the beauty and wonder of the Australian Capital Territory.
