Description

Nightcap National Park is a protected area located in the Nightcap Range of the Northern Rivers region of New South Wales.

It spans over 8,080 hectares and is known for its towering mountain peaks, gorges, and waterfalls, as well as its diverse range of flora and fauna.

The park's unique topography is a result of being on the eroded remains of the Tweed shield volcano, which erupted over 23 million years ago. It has two types of rainforest and experiences high rainfall, particularly during the wet season.

Nightcap National Park has a rich Aboriginal history, with several Aboriginal communities and sacred sites within the park. It also played a significant role in the modern conservation movement, with the site of the first rainforest anti-logging demonstrations in Australia.

The park is recognized as part of the Forests of East Australia biodiversity hotspot, with over 650 plant species and a variety of bird, frog, reptile, and mammal species.

Management of the park focuses on maintaining ecosystems, promoting its World Heritage status, restoring native flora and fauna, and controlling pests and weeds.

Access to the park is available through various sections, each with its own entry points and attractions, including camping facilities, picnic spots, and viewing areas.

Nightcap National Park is a popular destination for nature enthusiasts, hikers, campers, and those seeking tranquility in a beautiful natural setting.
