Description

Noel Coward grew up in poverty, left school when he was only nine years old and by the age of 30, he was the highest paid writer in the world, and a star on the Broadway stage.

Coward wrote, directed and acted in some of the finest plays and movies of all time. He also became a world-renowned songwriter and performer…and if that wasn’t enough, he was also a spy during the Second World War!

Narrated by Alan Cumming with Rupert Everett as the voice Noel Coward. The film features Laurence Olivier, Maggie Smith, Harold Pinter, Frank Sinatra, Lauren Bacall, Michael Caine and Lucille Ball.

50 years since Coward's death, this expansive documentary tells the story of how against all odds, Noel Coward became the most successful multi-talented artist of the 20th Century. He defined an era, leading an extraordinary life in the spotlight but closely guarded his sexuality and private life for fear of persecution. This is his inspirational story told in his own words and music, and unique home movies.

It’s a fascinating portrait of the man, and of an era.” The Guardian
