Description

Mimbi Caves Mueller Ranges is an impressive attraction known for its unique geological formations and extensive collection of Aboriginal rock art.

Located approximately a 90-minute drive from Fitzroy Crossing, the cave system offers a fascinating opportunity to explore an underground world filled with hidden secrets. The tour guides, who are Gooniyandi people, provide insights into the area's history, cultural significance, and traditional practices.

During the tour, visitors can marvel at the karst cliffs that line the walkway to the cave entrance. Led by Girloorloo guides, the two and a half hour journey takes you through the cave, illuminated by torchlight. Inside, you will be amazed by the stunning speleothems, stalagmites, shawls, flowstones, and sparkling calcite crystals that adorn the cave system. The Mimbi Caves are also home to the best preserved fish fossils in the world.

In addition to the geological wonders, the tour offers insights into Aboriginal rock art, Dreamtime stories, traditional medicines, and bush tucker. It provides a unique opportunity to gain a fascinating understanding of one of the earth's oldest surviving cultures and their ancient way of life.

The Mimbi Caves are open to visitors year-round, but it is important to check with the tour operators for any changes in tour duration due to weather conditions. Located in the Mueller Ranges region, visitors are encouraged to drive to the attraction as there are no bus or train services available. Upon arrival, visitors can park their vehicles and register at the tour entrance, where Girloorloo guides will guide them throughout the site.
