Description

The Outer Circle Rail Trail, also known as the Anniversary Trail or Outer Circle Anniversary Trail, is a popular shared-use path for pedestrians and cyclists in Melbourne, Victoria.

It follows sections of the old steam-era Outer Circle Line and stretches approximately 13km from the Yarra River Trail at Fairfield to Hughesdale Station.

The trail is well-known to locals and attracts recreational cyclists due to its proximity to other paths, connecting transport, and many suburbs. It can be accessed from Chandler Highway via the Yarra River Trail to Willsmere Park or through Hyde Park.

While the trail has undergone upgrades, including complete sealing and division, there are still some challenging sections to navigate. Additionally, the section between Whitehorse Road and East Camberwell Station lacks lighting. The northern end of the trail connects with the Yarra River Trail, and the Ferndale Park Trail offers an alternate route to the Gardiners Creek Trail between Burwood and Ashburton Stations. Another path from Alamein Station leads to Warrigal Road via Markham Reserve. Finally, the southern end of the trail connects with the Gardiners Creek Trail and Scotchmans Creek Trail, continuing to the recently constructed Djerring Trail at Hughesdale Station.

The trail provides various facilities, including sealed surfaces, pedestrian traffic lights at busy road crossings, and amenities such as BBQ areas, playgrounds, tennis courts, and cricket pitches in
