Description

The Bluewater Sculpture Trail in Mackay is an award-winning public art display consisting of six installations by Queensland artist, Fiona Foley.

The installations are located in the Mackay City Centre, beside the scenic Pioneer River. Apart from the sculptures, the trail is also a part of council's Bluewater Activation Strategy, and it aims to provide recreational opportunities for the community and to improve their well-being through various activities.

Visitors can take a leisurely stroll or scenic bike ride along the shared pathway while taking in much of the region’s natural beauty. The Bluewater Trail has a "ring of activity" that boasts pedestrian and bicycle pathways, raised boardwalks, environmental areas, and disabled access. The trail includes several sites such as Mackay Regional Botanic Gardens, Sandfly Creek Environmental Walkway, Catherine Freeman Walk, Iluka Park, and the Bluewater Lagoon, a free three-tiered swimming facility. Visitors can also go fishing at two public fishing platforms located at the Bluewater Quay and near the Mackay Base Hospital.

The trail is accessible year-round for anyone who wants to experience the Bluewater Sculpture Trail's beauty. During the summer months (December to February), temperatures can reach up to 30°C, so it is essential to carry water and sunscreen. During the winter months (June to August), temperatures can drop to 15°C, so it is best to bring a light jacket.

The Bluewater Sculpture Trail is located in the Mackay City Center beside Pioneer River. Visitors can take a cab or public transportation, and there is plenty of parking space near the trail.

The Bluewater Sculpture Trail is a must-visit for anyone
