Lake Rowallan

Lake Rowallan is a popular destination for trout fishing and hiking.

It is located in North West Tasmania, about 25 kilometres south of Liena. Visitors can access the lake after a 30-minute drive from Liena, passing Lake Parangana and the Mersey White Water Forest Reserve. The last few kilometres of the road leading to Lake Rowallan are unsealed.

Lake Rowallan offers a great trout fishing experience. The lake is stocked with rainbow and brown trout, as well as native species, providing ample opportunities for fishing. Visitors can launch their boats at the northern end of the lake or use the four-wheel drive vehicle tracks to reach sheltered camping areas where they can launch small boats from the shore. Additionally, Lake Rowallan serves as the starting point for hiking into nearby highland areas, including the Walls of Jerusalem National Park. Hikers can explore unique flora and fauna while enjoying stunning panoramic views. During the colder months of June to September, the lake's waters can freeze over, making fishing unsafe.

To get to Lake Rowallan from Liena, visitors need to travel south past Lake Parangana and the Mersey White Water Forest Reserve, which takes approximately 30 minutes. The last few kilometres of the road leading to the lake are unsealed, so caution is advised while driving.

Visitors who wish to fish for trout in Tasmania's lakes must obtain a license. A free brochure entitled "Fishing Code for Anglers" is available from license-selling agents and the Inland Fisheries Commission.
