Description

Murray 1 Power Station Lookout is a popular attraction located in Khancoban, New South Wales, Australia.

The lookout is situated opposite Murray 1 Hydroelectric Power Station across Khancoban Back Creek, approximately 8 km southeast on the Alpine Way from the town of Khancoban. The lookout offers visitors a chance to view the power station and the surrounding area from a high vantage point. The lookout is easily accessible by car, and visitors can park their vehicles in the designated parking area.

The lookout is a great place to stop and take a break when driving along the Alpine Way. The area is well-maintained and has informative signage about the Snowy Mountains Scheme, a vast hydroelectricity and irrigation complex constructed in southeast Australia between 1949 and 1974. The Murray 1 Power Station Lookout offers visitors a chance to view the Murray 1 Hydroelectric Power Station, which is a conventional gravity-fed hydroelectric power station with ten vertical UK-manufactured Francis, Boving Engineering turbines, each fitted with ASEA-manufactured generators, with a combined generating capacity of 950 MW (1.27 million hp) of electricity. The power station was completed in 1967 and has a 460.2 m (1,510 ft) rated head.

The lookout does not have any facilities or amenities, so visitors should bring their own food and drinks if they plan to spend some time there.
