Description

Mount Meharry, the highest peak in Western Australia, is located in the Karijini National Park in the Pilbara region.

It holds cultural significance for the Pandjima peoples, who refer to it as Wirlbiwirlbi.

Named after William Thomas Meharry, the Chief Geodetic Surveyor for Western Australia, Mount Meharry was discovered by Surveyor Trevor Markey and his party in 1967. The calculations confirming its status as the highest peak in Western Australia were performed by Tom Meharry. After William Meharry's death, the peak was named in his honor.

To reach the summit of Mount Meharry, one can take an unsealed road and vehicular track from the Great Northern Highway. Permission is required from the land managers, Juna Downs Station and the Department of Parks and Wildlife. The trek to the peak is challenging but offers breathtaking 360-degree views.
