Description

The Yaberoo Budjara Heritage Trail is a 28km walking trail that takes visitors through areas of great natural beauty and diversity.

It starts from Neil Hawkins Park on the shore of Lake Joondalup and runs through Yellagonga Regional Park, Neerabup National Park, and Yanchep National Park. The trail highlights features of natural, Aboriginal, and historical significance and follows the movement track of the local Whadjuk Noongar elder Yellagonga's tribe.

The trail offers visitors the opportunity to learn about the history and culture of the Whadjuk Noongar people and their connection to the land. It also allows for exploration of the diverse flora and fauna in the area, including tuarts, paperbarks, and wetlands. The trail is suitable for people with moderate fitness levels as it is graded as level 3.

For the best experience, it is recommended to visit the Yaberoo Budjara Heritage Trail during the cooler months of the year, from April to October. This is when the weather is mild and there is a lower risk of bushfires.

To access the trail, visitors can start from Neil Hawkins Park, which is approximately 30 minutes' drive north of Perth. Alternatively, they can start at Yanchep National Park, which is a further 20 minutes along Wanneroo Road. The trail can also be done in sections, and individual maps are available.

Maps of the trail can be obtained from the Wanneroo Regional Museum or downloaded online. It is important to plan ahead as there are no facilities along the trail, such as ablution blocks, drinking water, or shelters. Visitors should bring enough water, food, and other necessary
