Description

Bangadilly National Park is located in the Southern Highlands of New South Wales, Australia, approximately 20 km west of Bowral.

Established in 2001, the park covers 2,141 hectares of land and features sandstone plateaus and river gorges along the Wingecarribee River.

The park is home to a diverse range of flora, including nine different types of vegetation communities. It is one of the few places where you can find trees from the Sydney Basin near their southwestern limit of distribution. Various species such as grey gum, silvertop ash, hard-leaved scribbly gum, and blue-leaved stringybark can be found in the open eucalypt forest and woodland. The slopes and valleys of the park are habitats for tablelands species like yellow box, red stringybark, Argyle apple, brittle gum, and apple box. Deeper soil areas are abundant with river peppermint, manna gum, and river oak, making it a haven for botanists.

The park also boasts a variety of rare fauna, including the powerful owl, glossy black cockatoo, speckled warbler, spotted-tailed quoll, yellow-bellied glider, koala, common bent-wing bat, large-eared pied bat, greater broad-nosed bat, and eastern false pipistrelle. The river is a crucial habitat for platypus, and even emus have been spotted in the park. Other commonly found species include the regent honeyeater, turquoise parrot, smoky mouse, Australian masked owl, swift parrot, and hooded robin.

A popular activity in Bangadilly National Park is the Mount Penang loop walk. This 3 km
