Description

Carrington Falls is a stunning plunge waterfall located within Budderoo National Park in New South Wales, Australia.

It spans the Kangaroo River and provides a breathtaking view of the Southern Highlands region. The falls are situated about 7 kilometers east-southeast of Robertson and have an elevation of approximately 542 meters above sea level.

Situated high above the Kangaroo Valley, Carrington Falls descends approximately 130–160 meters from the plateau to the valley floor, offering a spectacular view to its visitors. Although the recreation facilities were damaged during a bushfire in 2016, they have since been renovated and reopened to the public in 2019.

The history of Carrington Falls is rich and diverse. Surveyor Robert Hoddle surveyed a track through the once-thick rainforest known as Yarrawa Brush in 1830. The township of Robertson grew after the passing of the Robertson Land Act in 1861, which encouraged settlement in the area.

The Missingham family played a fascinating role in the history of Carrington Falls. John Missingham and his wife Mary moved to Carrington Falls in the 1880s. John worked hard to improve his situation, attending night school and becoming an avid reader. He provided accommodation for the local teacher and a schoolroom in his house, which also served as a church. John was active in the community and developed a passion for the bushland around Carrington Falls.

In the early 1900s, John Missingham purchased a timber mill at Carrington Falls and established his sawmilling business. The mill operated for four generations until its closure in the 1980s. The locality of Carrington Falls is considered a suburb of the Municipality of Kiama
