Description

The Poets Precinct in Gunnedah is a beautiful tribute to Australian poet Dorothea Mackellar.

It features a bronze statue of Dorothea on a horse, surrounded by plaques of her poems along the Maas Walk. Across South Street, ANZAC Park is home to the Mackellar Centre, which houses the Jean Isherwood 'My Country' collection of watercolour paintings and memorabilia of Dorothea Mackellar. The precinct also includes war memorials such as the Eighth Division Memorial Avenue, Remembrance Grove, and the Water Tower Museum with its impressive murals. The Gunnedah War Memorial Pool Complex offers a range of modern facilities, including indoor and outdoor pools, a water park, and picnic areas. The Poets Precinct is an ideal destination for family outings, with spacious grounds, shaded spaces, toilets, and picnic facilities. The precinct is open year-round with no entry fee, and the best time to visit is during the pleasant weather of spring and autumn. To get to the Poets Precinct, visitors can drive approximately five hours from Sydney or use public transportation such as trains or buses to Gunnedah, following the signs to the precinct once they arrive.
